Why Reading Miracles?

Around the country, too many people give up on struggling readers. The schools wash their hands and pass students through the grades, saying nothing can be done. Parents take the educators at their word and adjust their expectations downwards. Adult struggling readers accept that it’s their lot in life to be second class citizens.

It doesn’t have to be this way….

There are answers, solutions, strategies, tools, and even people who want all readers to succeed. Struggling readers need a helping hand and encouragement. Most of all, they need people to believe in them and guide them to higher levels of literacy.

Who is Sandy Fleming?

That’s easy! I’m a teacher, a tutor, a reading and literacy expert, and a writer. I’m also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a community volunteer.

My biggest professional goal is to help students who are falling through the cracks. These students are not experiencing success with traditional classroom activities and educational settings. Some have special needs while others do not. For whatever reason, typical educational strategies are not working. Rather than sit and wring my hands, I take action.

I have my Bachelor’s and my Master’s degrees in Special Education, and I’ve had several years of substitute and regular classroom experience, and I’ve been tutoring for over 30 years. My special education background gives me a wealth of tools that are simply not practical for the classroom setting, but they work great with struggling students who are working one on one or in small group settings. I’m blessed to be able to communicate these strategies to nearly anyone, whether or not they are trained as a teacher.

This means that I can help parents, tutors, volunteers, and teachers learn new teaching strategies to help students. It doesn’t matter what age the students are, what their abilities or disabilities may be, or what others have concluded about them. They are falling through cracks in school and in society, and I aim to put a stop to that, one student at a time. If you will help me, there will be that many fewer people who struggle with limited literacy.

Won’t you join me?
